Art

I am an architect, who loves DIY and decorating my home with things I have made myself. I also love DIY gifts. So, in my free time I like to draw, paint, cut, paste, create and just get messy. Here are the results of my messiness!

Abstract

Abstract basketball court

Abstract basketball court

2020 – This piece of art is a result of teamwork by me and my husband R. He likes sketching but doesn’t like to get messy with paints and I love painting!Result is this beautiful abstract image of a basketball court in plan view. (PS: We have not designed the artwork. We saw a reference image and redrew it.) We also repurposed one of our old frames and framed our painting at home itself!

Isn’t it pretty?

Midnight sky artwork

2020 – Midnight sky – This is a quick one on canvas with acrylic paints. Ideal for beginners like me!

coffee art
Coffee art

2020 – This might seem like a very simple and childish painting but what is special about it is that no paints or brushes are used to make this piece. Surprised? It is made using coffee (yes, the same one you drank today morning) instead of paints and fingers and a spoon instead of a brush!

RVD scooty

2020 – This is a special art piece with lot of emotion attached to it.

VD told R one day –
‘Let me take you on my bike,
Hold on tight and it will be alright.
R was not so sure about bikes, he was afraid we will fall in a dike.
The longer we drove, the tighter he held,
And I knew he was smiling feeling the breeze on his face.
From that day onwards, it was a race.
We rode to breathe, to feel, to laugh, to soar, to relax, to be independent, to feel strong and to prove them wrong.
We rode to live ‘

Sports

Roger Federer abstract

2020 – My husband loves sports and Federer is one of his favourite sportsmen. So, here I am presenting an abstract art painting of Roger Federer drawn by R from a photo and painted by me. We made the frame from some waste material available at home and painted it black. It’s now resting besides yesterday’s painting on the cabinets in our bedroom! Ain’t it looking pretty?

Lebron James art

2020 – LeBron James is my brother-in-law’s (another sport fanatic) favourite basketball player and we made this art piece as a gift for him. But thanks to the lockdown, we have still not been able to actually gift it to him!

Serena Williams art

2020 – This one is again acrylic paints on canvas, painted by R. He is a big Serena Williams fan as well. She is a vegan and a legendary tennis player. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and has her own vegan clothing line.

Faceless

2020 – Some people have such an iconic face and identity that you don’t need details to draw their faces. Inspired by Coco Davez’s faceless collection paying tribute to her idols with a touch of Pop, we are presenting our art collection of people who inspire us.

Faceless art Portraits

These art portraits are of extremely iconic people who have contributed a lot to the society –

  • Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar – was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer, who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination towards the untouchables. You can read more in detail about caste discrimination in India on my blog . We owe our secular and politically as well as socially democratic nature of the constitution based on the edifice of liberty, equality, justice and fraternity to him.
  • Rabindranath Tagore – was a famous Indian poet, writer, music composer, painter and educator.
  • Martin Luther King – was a social activist who played a key role in the American civil rights movement until his assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental to that movement’s success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. He used to say – ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’

SavitriBai Phule art

2020 – Considering the recent documented news about violence on the bases of caste discrimination, I thought SavitriBai Phule will be the best addition to our faceless series of artworks.

Savitribai Phule -Teacher, Activist And Mother Of Indian Feminism.

Today, many urban millennials seem to have forgotten that casteism is not obsolete in this country. SavitriBai is known for her contribution to women’s education in India, including the construction of the first school for women. Her work in the field of women’s education paved the way for generations of women to seek knowledge and economic independence that education brings. Not only did she establish schools but also a care center for pregnant rape victims. Along with her husband Jyotibha Phule, as a social activist, she worked not only for gender-related issues but also against caste discrimination.
It is our duty to carry on with her fights until we are all free from these social inequalities.
You can read more in detail about caste discrimination in India on my blog .

Faceless art Portraits

2020 – We have put up all these artworks on the door of the guest bedroom in our house and we plan to keep adding more and more portraits of people who inspire us, to this collection.

Black and white

Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain art

2020 – Kurt Cobain was an American singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the guitarist, primary songwriter and frontman of the rock band Nirvana. Through his angst fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain’s compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock music. He was often heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and has since been considered to be one of the most influential rock musicians in the history of alternative music.

Bojack Horseman art

2020 – The whole world right now is facing an unexpected crisis. Everyone’s locked in their houses, feeling restless. Moreover, we have no idea when will all this end. At time’s likes this you remember the baboon telling Bojack – ‘It gets easier.’

We made this as a gift for a friend who really likes this show.

Rafi art

2020 – Mohammed Rafi was a playback singer considered as one of the greatest and most influential singers of India. We made this on a special request by a family friend.

Roger Federer art

2020 – My best friend Monish is also a sports fanatic and a big big Federer fan. On his birthday in the middle of the pandemic, couldn’t think of a better gift to cheer him up on his birthday.

Thank you J.K.Rowling, for creating this magical world full of love, friendship and hardships. You taught us life is not always fair, but in the end it is not so bad if you have friends.

Thank you for all the nights of escape when I forgot my own problems and lived Harry’s instead. Thank you Harry, Ron and Hermione for you taught us what friendship is.

Lorelai Gilmore girls art

A special birthday gift for my best friend @dhwani1905 who likes coffee more than she likes me.

DIY Concrete objects

DIY Concrete objects

2019 – We have been making some DIY cement pots and candle stands recently at home. All objects used as moulds are simple things available at home. It is so much fun to explore actually working with cement and the joy you get out of holding the finished product in your hand! We started with using white cement. The final finish is amazing and you can paint it however you want.  Can’t wait to experiment more and more with this!

DIY Concrete Lamp
DIY Concrete Lamp

2019 – After the simple stuff I decided to up my game and make this beautiful DIY concrete lamp made using 2 bowls and an empty glass jar as a gift for my husband (fiance at that time). This time I used grey cement. Both cements work well but if you are planning to paint over it, better to use the white one.

Digital Art

2021 –Procreate is the leading creative application made for iPad. The combination of Procreate + Apple pencil is right now the latest and the most powerful tool for designers, illustrators, animators and anyone interested in any form of digital art.

My husband is an architect, graphic designer and illustrator. I recently gifted him a new I-pad  and Apple pencil on his birthday, thinking it will be a really useful addition to his set of working tools.

Well, he has been too busy to explore it properly yet but I have started exploring the wonders of Apple pencil and Procreate app! Its a wonderful tool and I can not recommend it enough for anyone who likes illustrating, designing and creating any type of digital art.

And the best part is after you are done with the art part of it you don’t have to worry about cleaning up the mess part! 😛

City night skyline

Drawing while following Youtube tutorials is a great way to start learning any software. I  made this night city skyline by following a tutorial by @art_with_flo.

She also offers a lot of free procreate brushes and materials on her website.

Mandala

Mandalas are a great way to practise and get accustomed to drawing with the Apple Pencil and at the same time create cool outputs.

Have you tried the symmetry feature on @procreate ? It’s so cool!

Stay home, Stay safe.

All health care workers are working and risking their lives day and night to take care of the sick. So don’t complain about not being able to dine out and travel. Take care of people around you. Get vaccinated if you are eligible. I know it is mentally tiring. But stay strong and stay home and this shall also pass.

PS – I have made this artwork after taking a skill share class by @charlyclements. It is my first attempt at animating on procreate.
